Man City vs Real Madrid: European Giants Clash Again in Play-Off Round

Two of Europe’s biggest clubs, Manchester City and Real Madrid, are set to face off once again in the play-off round of this year’s competition. The two sides have met in the latter stages for the past three seasons, with the winner going on to lift the trophy each time.

The first leg takes place at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, and despite City’s inconsistent form this season, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti still sees Pep Guardiola as the best coach in football.

Ancelotti Praises Guardiola and Prepares for a Tough Battle

The veteran Italian, a five-time winner of the competition as a manager, acknowledged the challenge ahead:

"It is always a headache to face Manchester City. It will be a difficult game, hard to predict. It will depend a lot on the attitude and confidence of both teams. At this level, you have to be at your best in every aspect."

Ancelotti compared their frequent meetings to a ‘Clasico’, highlighting how often the two teams have crossed paths in Europe. He also praised Guardiola’s tactical genius, saying:

"They are one of the best teams in Europe, and they have the best manager out there. It’s a nightmare preparing for games against him because he always has ideas that make you think. I am convinced the team that wins this tie will go on to win the competition."

Injury Concerns for Real Madrid

Real Madrid have hit a rough patch in La Liga, dropping four points in their last two matches, reducing their lead at the top to just one point. They are also struggling with defensive injuries, with Lucas Vazquez joining an already long list of absentees, including Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Eder Militao, and Dani Carvajal.

Despite the setbacks, Ancelotti remains confident:

"I think we can be competitive despite the emergency we have."

Rodrygo Ready to Face Man City Again

One player set to feature is Rodrygo, who will line up alongside Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham in Real Madrid’s feared attacking quartet. The Brazilian has a strong record against City, having scored four times against them, including his dramatic double in the 2022 semi-final comeback.

Speaking ahead of the match, Rodrygo admitted the challenge City pose but hopes to continue his good form against them:

"It is not a team I like playing against because they make it very difficult, but I have had good moments against them in the past. I hope I can do it again."

With both teams eyeing another European crown, this clash promises to be yet another high-stakes battle between two of football’s elite.
